Current Tax Incentives
Federal Energy Efficiency Funds
Amount: Tax credit equal to 10% of cost, maximum of $500.00
Expiration: December 31, 2011
For comprehensive details about this program, visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR website http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=tax_credits.tx_index
This tax credit covers materials only; it excludes the cost of installation or labor. The exception to this rule is that the cost of labor associated with spray foam insulation does qualify for the incentive! Spray foam qualifies because its purpose is to insulate and lasts a minimum of five years.
These products used to reduce air leaks also qualify: weather-stripping, spray foam in a can, caulk and house wrap.
To claim the tax credit, homeowners must have a Manufacturer’s Certification Statement, which is a signed declaration from the manufacturer certifying the product or component qualifies for the credit. Smart Sealed provides Manufacturer’s Certification Statements whenever they are available.
For tax credit claims, save your receipt and Manufacturer’s Certification Statement. You must keep a copy of the statement for your records, but you are not required to submit it with your tax return. Use IRS Tax Form 5695 (version 2009) http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f5695.pdf
